Emma´s Apartment
Private client, 2024
The attic of a listed half-timbered building traditionally consists of several small rooms. As part of a redesign, the client wanted to create open and bright living spaces with a reference to the historic building. The load-bearing structure forms the basic shape of the flat. Almost all non-load-bearing walls were removed, creating new visual axes. Opening up the rooms results in a spacious and wide living area, which can be separated from individual adjoining rooms by sliding and door elements. The open kitchen stands out as a central element through its form and color scheme and creates visual references to the surrounding living areas through its division. Various materials and colours set accents in the rooms and in the interior fittings and create an overarching connection. Mirrored surfaces were also used, such as the sliding door in the hallway, which complements the visual axis of the exposed framework along the ceiling structure.
